Infographic: 10 Social Media Sites That Failed
After viewing this infographic, there were a few things that jumped out at me. First, there are two social networks that are moving towards extinction but were at one point popular; Digg and MySpace. MySpace was ultimately beaten by Facebook while Digg lost traction as larger social networks (Facebook, Twitter) became outlets for sharing news and links. It’s also worth noting that Reddit is alive and well, despite a similar voting concept to Digg.
The other comment I had pertaining to this infographic is labeling Google+ a failure. Many people label Google+ a failure because it was unable to take market share away from Facebook. However, a lot of people in the marketing industry believe Google+ is used primarily to gather additional user data that helps Google target their advertising better. Every time someone Google+s a website, article, or product, Google takes note. So although it may have failed to take over Facebook thus far, to call it a complete failure would be an oversight. Not to mention, it is now being reporting that Google+ is the second largest social network in terms of active users…
