With the increasing demand for digital access to historical materials and records, there is a shortage of staff trained in the techniques and technologies used in creating and managing collections in libraries and other cultural heritage organizations. The Digitization Skills Certificate Program curriculum will prepare and train you for work building and managing digital collections.

You will gain practical experience in project planning, digitization, metadata, industry standards, copyright, preservation, and end user access to digital materials.

The Digitization Skills Certificate course sequence begins in the Fall semester and students can complete the program within a year, ending with a 60 hour internship during the summer session. Starting in Fall 2016, the Digitization Skills program is transitioning from a traditional, face-to-face program to a hybrid model, with classes partially or fully online.

Prior to beginning the Digitization Skills Certificate course sequence, you must first meet the prerequisite: Enrollment in or completion of BIT 025 or equivalent skills as demonstrated through placement based on the Library Technology assessment process.
