Master's programs, bachelor's programs
For highly-motivated students, St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers a dual bachelor and master’s degree program in French and Library and Information Science. The program allows you to complete your undergraduate and graduate degrees in five years of full-time study, with internships available at the graduate level.
The combination of the two degrees will prepare you for a career managing a library, information center, or information system with a global perspective. Your knowledge of the French culture and language will make you uniquely employable as a librarian or information specialist once you graduate with your master’s degree.
The rapid transformation fueled by technological innovation and ever-evolving societal expectations for information are creating new opportunities for information professionals. The combination of the bachelor and master’s degrees in French and Library and Information Science offers job opportunities from two complementary disciplines. The program prepares you for emerging job opportunities in a variety of traditional and non-traditional settings:
- Archives, museums, and record centers
- Corporate, business, and legal organizations
- Government and non-governmental (NGO) institutions
- Health, medical, pharmaceutical, and scientific institutions
- Non-profit organizations
- Post-secondary institutions
- Public libraries
In addition to the job opportunities available to a Library and Information Science graduate, your knowledge of French culture and language will uniquely position you as an information professional in special information organizations, such as those focusing on French collections, museums, archives, and media.
