Undergraduate scholarships

Please visit the SVSU Scholarship Database to apply for additional funding. Scholarships do not have to be specifically related to study abroad or international experiences.  Any award you receive for the semester you will be abroad will be applied to your study abroad program. Students must have a FAFSA form on file in otder to be considered for many, but not all of these on-campus schoalrships.
 

SVSU Scholarships

Student Association Study Abroad Scholarship

Avaliable for all semesters and types of programs including domestic trips and non-credit programs

Minimum 2.75 GPA

Up to $500 per person

Application deadline:  Early November for Winter semester participants, mid-March for Spring/Summer and Fall semester participants

Please stop by the Student Association Office in Doan 103 for more information

 

The Scholarships below have a due date of April 1st for those planning to study abroad for the following Academic Year (Fall, Winter, Spring/Summer). Students can apply online at https://www.svsu.edu/admissions/scholarships/

Study Abroad Experience Award 

Avaliable for all semesters 

Minimum 2.5 GPA

Award does not exceed total program cost

Foundation, President, and other full tuition recipients are eligible

Students participating in non-credit or fully-funded programs are NOT eligible (Study Abroad 101, Shih Hsin University, Ming Chuan University, Shikoku University, Daegu University, etc.)

International Study Abroad Endowed Scholarship 

Avaliable for Fall and Winter semester-long participants

Must have financial need

Minimum 3.0 GPA

Demonstrated interest in languages & different cultures

Preference for study in a non-English speaking country

Preference for language or international studies majors / minors

Award amount varies

Students participating in non-credit or fully-funded programs are NOT eligible (Study Abroad 101, Shih Hsin University, Ming Chuan University, Shikoku University, Daegu University, etc.)

Puia International Studies Endowment 

Avaliable for Fall and Winter semester-long participants

U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Minimum sophomore standing

No previous participation in a study abroad program

Faculty-Led program participants are not eleigible

Minimum 3.0 GPA

Award amount varies

Students participating in non-credit or fully-funded programs are NOT eligible (Study Abroad 101, Shih Hsin University, Ming Chuan University, Shikoku University, Daegu University, etc.)

Gilberston Award for Study Abroad 

Avaliable for all semesters 

Minimum 24 SVSU credits

Minimum 3.0 GPA

Displayed character (state examples in essay)

Displayed leadership (state examples in essay)

Award amount varies

Students participating in non-credit or fully-funded programs are NOT eligible (Study Abroad 101, Shih Hsin University, Ming Chuan University, Shikoku University, Daegu University, etc.)

Ramet Endowed Scholarship for Study of Foreign Languages 

Avaliable for Fall and Winter semester-long participants 

Minimum 3.0 GPA

Demonstrated potential for ongoing study of / fluency in a foreign language

Preference for language majors / minors

Award amount varies

Students participating in non-credit or fully-funded programs are NOT eligible (Study Abroad 101, Shih Hsin University, Ming Chuan University, Shikoku University, Daegu University, etc.)

Gilman International Scholarship 

For students who receive a Pell Grant and are studying abroad for 4 weeks or longer 

Award amount: up to $5,000.

Boren Scholarship

For language study programs, minimum of 8 weeks, outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand 

Award amount: up to $20,000


Fulbright U.S. Student Program 

Various grants available


William Jefferson Clinton Scholarship 

For a semester of study at the American University of Dubai  Full tuition & housing


Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships 

Sponsorship for undergraduate and graduate studies abroad
